DOE Office of Enforcement Investigating Chemical Explosion at NNSS

NS&D Monitor
11/7/2014

Officials from the Department of Energy’s Office of Enterprise Assessments’ Office of Enforcement will visit the Nevada National Security Site later this month as part of an investigation into a chemical explosion that occurred in June. The explosion at the site’s Nonproliferation Test and Evaluation Complex injured two workers when a worker moved a 55-gallon drum filled with isopropyl alcohol. Steven Simonson, the director of the Office of Enforcement, said in an Oct. 29 letter to National Security Technologies President Raymond Juzaitis that officials will visit the site Nov. 17-20 as part of the investigation, where they will interview personnel with contractor National Security Technologies, LLC.

Simonson, however, did not provide any details about the accident, and contractor National Security Technologies and the National Nuclear Security Administration did not respond to requests for comment before press time.
