The Department of Energy has launched its procurement for a follow-on contract for the Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride Conversion Facilities Project at the Paducah and Portsmouth sites, releasing yesterday a sources sought and a draft performance work statement. B&W Conversion Services, LLC, is currently operating the facilities under a contract set to expire on Jan. 1, 2016. Since DOE is anticipating that all or some of the follow-on contract will be fixed price, it is asking potential bidders to identify “pricing challenges and risks associated with a fixed price arrangement,” according to the sources sought notice.
The conversion facilities convert DOE’s inventory of DUF6 at Paducah and Portsmouth into a more stable form for either reuse, storage or disposition. DOE is seeking “innovative approaches” for performing the work scope, the sources sought notice states. Additionally, in order to decide whether any of the work can be set aside for small businesses, DOE is seeking “interested parties with specialized capabilities necessary to successfully perform all or some portion” of the draft performance work statement, according to the sources sought. Capability statements from potential bidders are due July 7.
