Lab Effectiveness Panel to Hold Third Meeting Today

A commission tasked with reviewing the effectiveness of the Department of Energy’s national laboratories will meet for the third time today in Alexandria, Va., and will hear from a broad range of government and industry officials. National Nuclear Security Administration weapons program chief Don Cook will appear before the committee along with DOE Office of Science Associate Director for Laboratory Policy and Evaluation Devon Streit. The meeting is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Also appearing before the panel will be Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller, SLAC Vice President Bill Madia, University of California labs chief Kim Budil, Battelle’s Ron Townsend, and Brookhaven Science Associates official Peter Paul. Officials from the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy and the FBI will also appear before the panel.
