The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration is shopping around for a new Nevada Field Office headquarters in greater Las Vegas, a federal advisory board heard Wednesday evening.

Jill Hruby, who heads DOE’s semi-autonomous National Nuclear Security Administration, is slated to meet with Las Vegas officials next week in Washington, D.C., to discuss a potential office relocation for staff of the Nevada National Security Site field office, the Nevada Site-Specific Advisory Board heard at its Wednesday meeting.

The Feb. 27 meeting with Hruby “concerns the potential move from our North Las Vegas facility to a potential site in northwest Las Vegas,” said John Daniels, the public affairs officer for the Nevada National Security Site, located 65 miles north of the city.

“I can tell you this is something that we would like to do,” Daniels said. “However, there are a lot of other planning and fiscal considerations that are going into that.” He did not elaborate.

The NNSS North Las Vegas Facility is located at 232 Energy Way North Las Vegas, NV 89030, according to an Internet search. The field office oversees and provides operational support for the Nevada National Security Site.

An NNSA spokesperson said in a Thursday email NNSA is in the “preliminary, exploratory” stages of studying relocation of the NNSS North Las Vegas Facility, at 232 Energy Way North Las Vegas, to a more modern campus site closer to the Nevada National Security Site. About 1,300 employees currently work at the North Las Vegas campus, the spokesperson said.
