Operations have fully resumed at Idaho’s Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project following a safety pause instituted in response to a series of Technical Safety Requirement violations. Among the corrective actions taken during the pause, according to managing contractor Idaho Treatment Group, was Technical Safety Requirement retraining for first-line managers, Conduct of Operation proficiency demonstrations, procedure updates and a thorough review of Documented Safety Analysis and TSRs for improvement opportunities. “I’m pleased by the heightened awareness I’ve seen around the plant and I’m appreciative of the commitment that our employees have shown to following the procedures that guide us in the safe performance of our work,” ITG Plant Manager Doug Greenwell said in a written response yesterday. “The pause was the right thing to do to build on what is a very safe worksite. As we told employees, this pause can, and will, further enhance the safety of this project and in so doing, position us for the safe and compliant performance of our mission,” Greenwell said.
