AREVA is challenging the $30 billion lifecycle cost officials have cited for the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility, stating that the actual cost would be half that, according to reports. The Fiscal Year 2015 budget request cited the $30 billion figure, which was again used by Department of Energy officials in Congressional testimony last week. But David Jones of AREVA, a member of construction contractor Shaw AREVA MOX Services, said Friday that $4 billion has been spent so far and remaining costs including operating the facility total less than $13 billion, the Augusta Chronicle reported. The Administration’s figures are based on a study that has not been publicly released. “Members of Congress have started asking Department of Energy to provide details on that number, but as yet, we have not seen those numbers,” Jones said at the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce, according to the Augusta Chronicle.
