Pantex/Y-12 contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security has completed an analysis of alternatives to pursue a business-case analysis of a new Pantex Administrative Support Complex (ASC) in a private-public lease concept, and CNS hopes to provide the National Nuclear Security Administration with a business case by September, CNS Pantex Operations Manager Michelle Reichert said in a recent message to employees. If approved, construction could begin in early 2016, she said.
“[C]onsolidation into the ASC could allow our valuable plant resources and operating budget to be more focused on other critical infrastructure needs and enable us to replace outdated and aging facilities,” Reichert told Pantex employees. “The ASC could change the face of our plant, providing many current and future Pantexans a great place to work.”
ASC could provide office space for up to 1,100 employees and support CNS investments in people and revitalization of infrastructure. The ASC, which she described as a state-of-the-art facility expected to be approximately 250,000 to 300,000 square feet, would support Pantex’s weapons mission and relocate employees from aging facilities that have proved “functionally and technologically challenging,” she said.
The focus of the ASC is to provide an administrative and support facility for the weapons mission at Pantex as well as to relocate employees from aging facilities that have proved functionally and technologically challenging, Reichert said. The proposed facility would include a conference center, cafeteria, visitor’s center, medical facilities and office space.
