DAVID HUIZENGA MARKS ONE YEAR AS DOE CLEANUP CHIEF

By ExchangeMonitor
This week marks David Huizenga’s one-year anniversary as head of the Department of Energy’s cleanup program. In an interview with WC Monitor to mark the occasion, Huizenga discussed the impacts of his reorganization of the DOE Office of Environmental Management to establish mission units, EM’s efforts to finally get itself off the Government Accountability Office list of “high risk” programs and recent issues seen at major construction projects, among other topics. “I really want to continue to work with both the federal staff and the contractors to look forever at increasingly better ways to do business. The resources are going to be tight for a while. I think that’s pretty clear. So rather than complain about that, I’d like to try to find a way to actually work smarter rather than harder,” Huizenga said. “So looking for ways across the department to accomplish the EM mission in a more efficient and effective manner is one way of dealing with tightening resources. So I want to encourage my staff and the contractors to if they have ideas or are going to need some seed money to actually find out whether an idea actually will bear fruit we’re willing to listen.” To read the full interview, please see the next issue of WC Monitor.
