DOE ANNOUNCES NEW ACTING DEPUTY CFO, DEPARTURE OF CHIEF HUMAN CAPITAL OFFICER

By ExchangeMonitor

Secretary of Energy Steven Chu announced a round of personnel changes yesterday in a memo to employees, including the appointment of Joanne Choi as acting deputy chief financial officer and the retirement of Chief Human Capital Officer Mike Kane. Choi, who was previously director of finance and accounting in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, is holding the job in an acting capacity following the departure of Owen Barwell this spring for work in the private sector. Barwell was also serving as acting chief financial officer at the time of his departure, but the CFO position is currently vacant.

Kane plans to retire as chief human capital officer at the end of the month, and will be replaced in an acting capacity by Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer Sarah Bonilla. “Mike has been invaluable to the Department in selecting, developing, training, and managing a highly skilled, productive, and diverse workforce in accordance with statutory requirements,” Chu wrote. Chu also announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Information Officer Bob Brese to chief information officer starting July 1. Brese will take over for Michael Locatis, who will move to the Department of Homeland Security.
