The newly-appointed second-in-command at the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management, Jeffrey Avery, will formally assume his new job next month, a spokesperson said Monday.
Avery, most recently director of regulatory and security affairs with the Office of Naval Reactors, is already listed as principal deputy assistant secretary or EM-2, in the latest org chart dated Dec. 8. However, Avery’s first day on the job won’t come until Jan. 17, a spokesperson for the cleanup office said Monday evening.
When Avery’s appointment to the new job was first announced at the end of November by Environmental Management senior adviser William (Ike) White, the start date was listed as January.
The interim No. 2 person at the $7.8-billion nuclear cleanup office and DOE veteran manager Candice Robertson, left Dec. 4, to become chief of staff for commissioner Brad Crowell at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
