EPA CLOSE TO UNVEILLING FINDINGS IN SPRU CONTAMINATION PROBE

By ExchangeMonitor

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency could unveil as early as this week the results of its investigation into the set of contamination incidents that occurred at the Separations Process Research Unit site in 2010. The EPA’s investigation was prompted by incidents that occurred during D&D activities at SPRU that spread low levels of contamination to the broader Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory site, where SPRU is located; as well as off-site to a local river. While the EPA’s investigation initially focused on the contamination incidents that occurred in the fall of 2010, the agency subsequently broadened its inquiry to cover the entire scope of the Department of Energy’s D&D efforts at SPRU, stretching back to 2006.
