As Japan moves forward with tackling the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster, the governor of the Fukushima province is interested in learning more about cleanup approaches from U.S. firms. Governor Yuhei Sato is inviting U.S. cleanup companies to travel to Japan to brief him and his staff in mid-to-late March, according to a notice posted on the FedBizOpps Web site late last week. “The briefings should provide options to clean up the Fukushima Dai-ichi site as well as the surrounding areas. Contractor capabilities in soil and groundwater remediation; radioactive waste storage, treatment, and disposal; retrieval of spent fuel and debris from storage pools; and deactivation and decommissioning should be identified,” the notice says.
