Here’s a look at some of the events we’ll be following this week:
- Today, the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center and Foreign Policy Initiative are sponsoring a discussion on “How Much Tighter Must the NPT Be?” at 11:45 a.m. in Room B340 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
- On Tuesday the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting at 2 p.m. in New Ellenton, S.C., to discuss the status of the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility.
- On Wednesday, the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee is holding a hearing on the proper size of the nuclear weapons stockpile with testimony from former Strategic Command chief and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. James Cartwright, former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering, and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Forces Policy Keith Payne. The hearing will take place at 10 a.m. in Room 192 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
- On Wednesday, national security experts from the Obama and Romney campaigns square off at the Brookings Institution at 2 p.m. Former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Michele Fluornoy will represent the Obama campaign, while Rich Williamson represents Romney.
- On Thursday, the House Homeland Security Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies Subcommittee will hold a hearing on “Preventing Nuclear Terrorism: Does DHS have an Effective and Efficient Nuclear Detection Strategy” at 10 a.m. in Room 311 of the Cannon House Office Building.
