Here’s a look at the events we will be following this week:
- The Congressionally appointed panel on National Nuclear Security Administration governance will offer its sense of the problems facing the agency when the panel’s chairmen appear before the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Former Lockheed Martin CEO Norm Augustine and former Strategic Command chief Adm. Richard Mies will testify before the committee, providing an interim report on the panel’s work thus far. The panel has visited various sites around the weapons complex and heard from dozens of weapons complex officials since formally beginning its work in the fall. Augustine previously said the report will largely be a “status document” because the panel has been in information-gathering mode for several months.
- Nuclear issues will also be a hot topic on the Senate side of Capitol Hill Wednesday as senior NNSA and DOE officials testify before the Senate Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 222 of the Russell Senate Office Building. Speaking at the hearing will be acting NNSA Administrator Bruce Held, DOE cleanup chief David Huizenga, Naval Reactors chief Adm. John Richardson, and NNSA Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs Don Cook.
- Former Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Director Parney Albright will offer his thoughts on the challenges facing the Stockpile Stewardship Program and nuclear modernization efforts at George Washington University today. Albright’s speech will begin at 4 p.m. in Room 602 of GW’s Lindner Family Commons.
