MANAGER CHANGE COSTS WEST VALLEY CONTRACTOR $250,000

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy has decided to dock Valley Demonstration Project cleanup contractor CH2M HILL B&W West Valley $250,000 in fee following the departure of Ryan Dodd, the contractor’s general manager. “DOE notified CHBWV the total available fee amount specified in the contract between DOE and CHBWV was being decremented in the amount of $250,000 due to CHBWV’s removal of Mr. Ryan Dodd as the contract’s designated General Manager,” DOE spokesman Bill Taylor said in a written response yesterday. Under CHBWV’s contract, the Department has the option to asses a fee forfeiture of up to $500,000 if the contractor’s general manager leaves ahead of a three-year commitment. Dodd’s early departure due to personal reasons came just months after CHBWV took over the contract in late August. Dodd first took personal leave in December and left the project in March after he exceeded the amount of leave time approved by the Department.

Meanwhile, the Department has approved Dan Coyne as new general manager for CHBWV, Taylor confirmed yesterday. Coyne, who had been CHBWV deputy general manager and vice president of facilities disposition, led the project in recent months in an acting capacity until his approval by the Department came in May. Coyne has 29 years experience in the nuclear industry, including 21 years working on DOE sites and has led D&D work at the Idaho closure project.
