The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division has awarded Lockheed Martin a $16 million sole-source indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for technical engineering, life cycle support and repair services of Ohio-class submarine data processing system (DPS) equipment and related systems, according to a May 1 Defense Department announcement. The announcement defines DPS as a “mission critical” legacy subsystem comprised of the DPS UYK-43 hardware computer and associated software.
The last time the service awarded a contract for the system was about five years ago, and the system is planned to be eliminated by about 2022, Navy spokesperson John Woodhouse said in a written response this week. New systems will fill DPS’ previous role for the Ohio-class Replacement. The contract dictates that Lockheed be able to analyze legacy DPS UYK-43 hardware and software problems, maintain and refurbish legacy DPS UYK-43 hardware computers and DPS-UYK software. Work will be performed in Newport, R.I., and is expected to be completed by April 2020.
