Navy Strategic Systems Programs intends to negotiate a modification by May 29 to accelerate the delivery and increase the number of launcher subsystem tactical hardware for installation of the 1st Article missile tube quad pack for the Ohio Replacement and UK Successor programs’ Common Missile Compartment, according to Defense Department announcement released last week. Northrop Grumman makes the hardware. “This procurement will fulfill the ongoing specialized technical support (tactical, qualification, and test equipment), hardware and vendor qualification, and production required for the Ohio Replacement/UK Successor Program,” the announcement states. The original contract was awarded on a sole-source basis on Oct. 1, 2013. The notice did not provide details on the estimated value or term of the planned contract. SSP did not respond to requests for comment.
The announcement comes on the heels of an SSP announcement that it will contract with Charles Stark Draper for Trident 2 Guidance Work. About three weeks ago, SSP announced it will contract with Draper to ensure Trident 2 Guidance Systems are sustained throughout their lifecycle. The new contract will involve detailed analysis of all factory and fleet performance data and development of alternative technologies to mitigate product obsolescence. Draper will also provide program management, administration, engineering, contracting, configuration and process control for maintenance of the MK6 Guidance System to ensure it meets all program objectives, including cost, electrical, and mechanical interface control for high-accuracy instrumentation applications, according to a notice issued last month.
