NDA ANNOUNCES KEY DATES FOR MAGNOX COMPETITION

By ExchangeMonitor

The United Kingdom’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has released key dates anticipated for the competition for cleanup at the Magnox and Research Sites Restorations sites. The NDA announced Friday it plans to publish a contract notice on July 16, which will be followed by a bidder’s conference in Manchester, UK, starting July 19. The agency has already started the procurement process for a contract that will cover work at the 12 Magnox reactor sites, currently managed by Energy Solutions, as well as the two research reactor sites. The first steps included preliminary meetings between the NDA and interested industry representatives in May. The pre-qualification will have a Aug. 31 response date, which will be followed by a dialogue period from January to July 2013. The invitation to submit final tender, equivalent to a request for proposal, is expected in July 2013, with a due date in August or September. A preferred bidder is expected to be announced in December 2013, with contract finalization and transition to take place in the first half of 2014, followed by an award in July 2014.

The NDA notes that the dates can be altered at any time, and that they assume that there will be no more than three bidders that pass the pre-qualification stage. “If there are more than 3 viable bidding entities, the NDA reserves the right to insert additional down-selection phase(s) during the dialogue which is likely to impact upon the timetable,” according to an NDA release. “This may take the form of an additional outline solutions phase with down-selection after submission of outline solutions or down-selection part way through the detailed dialogue.”
