The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s highest-ranking career executive is leaving the agency next month, according to a press release this week.
Margaret Doane, who currently serves as NRC’s executive director of operations, will leave her post effective Oct. 8, the agency said in a statement Monday. Doane is headed to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) where she will become deputy director-general for management.
Doane started her current position at NRC in 2018. In her role, she oversaw the commission’s operations and administrative functions, and also served as chief operating officer. Prior to that, Doane was NRC’s general counsel starting in 2012. She’s been with the agency since 1991.
Doane holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Loyola University, and has her law degree from the University of Maryland.
