WSI-SRS, the protective force contractor at the Savannah River Site, earned $2.1 million in fee for the first half of Fiscal Year 2013, 79 percent of the fee available ($2.7 million) under its contract with the Department of Energy. The contractor, which earned 97 percent ($2.6 million) of its available fee for the second half of FY 2012, was downgraded for what Savannah River Operations Office Manager Dave Moody termed “preventable operational incidents” in a letter to WSI-SRS General Manager Randy Garver. The incidents, along with “less than expected performance” during an Office of Independent Oversight Limited Scope Performance Test/Force-on-Force exercise, led to a company-wide “Operational Pause” and were “leading indicators of a lack of focus and degradation of conduct of operations,” Moody said in his letter, which did not offer details of any problems found. Moody lauded WSI-SRS for a number of achievements and for demonstrating “overall sound practices in protection of SRS national security interests and resources.” He added: “WSI-SRS has indicated renewed discipline and diligence to both fully address noted performance deficiencies and meet the challenges ahead in support of new business opportunities and future Site missions.”
