SAVANNAH RIVER REMEDIATION LOOKS FOR VOLUNTARY REDUCTIONS

By ExchangeMonitor

Citing budgetary constraints, liquid waste contractor Savannah River Remediation yesterday announced that it is launching a voluntary separations program. “SRR has accomplished much since taking over as the SRS Liquid Waste contractor in July 2009. However, as some projects come to a close and budgets continue to be reduced, we have to realign our workforce to ensure we have the right skills on the right jobs,” SRR president Dave Olson said in a statement. The contractor does not have a target number for the layoffs, and does not at this time anticipate any involuntary separations, SRR spokesman Dean Campbell said. The two-week program opened yesterday, and employees who participate will receive one week’s pay for every full year of service, up to 26 weeks. SRR estimates about 50 employees may participate, though that number is not a target, Campbell said. He added that the voluntary separation program is “not directly related” to the six-month Continuing Resolution passed by Congress last week.
