The Small Business Administration late last week struck down challenges to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Maywood, N.J. award to Cabrera Services and CB&I, ruling that Cabrera does qualify as a small business. Two teams—one named Maywood Closure Company, LLC, made up of Environmental Chemical Corporation, Safety and Ecology Holdings Corporation, ARS International and HydroGeoLogic, Inc., and the other made up of Terranear and EnergySolutions—both challenged the June 8 award through the SBA. However, though Cabrera won in the SBA case, the two challenging teams have also filed protests through the Government Accountability Office. The GAO challenges are unlikely to be decided until late summer, so the Corps’ existing contract with CB&I has been extended, allowing work at Maywood to continue for now.
