SEN. MURRAY MEETS WITH ENERGY SECRETARY NOMINEE MONIZ

By ExchangeMonitor
A comprehensive and long-term plan to treat waste that fits with limited federal resources needs to be developed, Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) told energy secretary nominee Ernest Moniz. She met with him Wednesday in what she said was a productive meeting to discuss energy issues. “First and foremost, we discussed the most pressing environmental cleanup issue in Washington state and our region:nuclear waste cleanup at the Hanford Site,” she said. She also went over existing federal obligations at Hanford. Fellow Democrat and new Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee has said that the state will not tolerate delays in addressing leaking single-shell tanks because of lack of federal money, nor will the state allow money to be shifted from other Hanford projects.
