SENATE APPROPRIATORS LOOK TO BOOST EM FUNDS IN FY 2013

By ExchangeMonitor

Senate appropriators are looking to spend slightly more than the Department of Energy requested for Fiscal Year 2013 for cleanup activities, reporting out of subcommittee yesterday an FY 2013 Energy and Water Appropriations bill that would provide a total of approximately $5.7 billion for DOE’s Office of Environmental Management. The proposed funding level represents an increase of approximately $50 million from DOE’s request. For defense environmental cleanup activities, which covers most major cleanup sites, the Senate bill would provide $5.064 billion, an increase of approximately $33 million from DOE’s request, according to a Senate Appropriations Committee press release. There was little mention of DOE’s cleanup program at the April 24 subcommittee markup, and site-by-site funding details are not expected to be released until the full Appropriations Committee considers the energy spending bill, scheduled to occur April 26.
