SRNS TO SELL SCRAP TO HELP FUND DISMANTLEMENT OF COAL PLANT

By ExchangeMonitor

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions is looking for small businesses interested in work dismantling a coal plant and related buildings at the Savannah River Site, and plans to use scrap from the project to help fund the project. The contractor released a Sources Sought notice earlier this week seeking expressions of interest for dismantling the 484-D Power House and 27 related structures. The 243 foot by 242 foot building has a steel frame with a corrugated asbestos roof and walls. The notice notes that the contract’s scope “will include providing the dismantlement services while offsetting cost with Government assets and scrap from the Power House.” The coal facility began operating in the 1950s to provide steam and electrical power to the site. Responses to the notice are due Aug. 28, and so far eight small businesses are on the interested vendors list.
