A suspicious package that turned out to be an air freshener triggered an hour-long emergency response Wednesday evening at the Energy Department’s Savannah River Site near Aiken, S.C.
DOE sent out a press release at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time that “a security event is in progress that has triggered emergency response activities at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site.”
A subsequent message delivered around 5:30 p.m. Eastern time said site emergency personnel had give the all-clear because “the suspicious item was determined to be non-threatening and the Site has been returned to normal operations.”
