Oak Ridge cleanup contractor URS-CH2M Oak Ridge, LLC (UCOR), yesterday laid off 21 subcontractor employees with more layoffs expected this week as part of a broader workforce restructuring. “UCOR released 21 staff augmentation subcontractors today and plans to release some additional subcontractors and trade workers later this week. This is to restructure the workforce to meet our changing needs as work is completed, and also to stay within expected funding for FY13. No UCOR employees are being affected,” UCOR spokesman Wayne McKinney said in a written response yesterday. The move comes after the contractor laid off 41 subcontractor employees on the K-27 and K-25 projects on Sept. 20. UCOR recently announced the completion of demolition work on K-25’s east side, and at this time work is expected to proceed on the remaining portions of the plant. “Demolition work on the K-25 north end, and deactivation work on the Tc-99 area of the east end, are planned to continue,” McKinney said.
