Army Corps of Engineers Leadership Heads to Hill for Budget Hearing

By ExchangeMonitor

Leaders of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will appear before the Senate Appropriations energy and water development subcommittee on Wednesday to discuss the agency’s budget request for fiscal 2019.

The Army Corps overall is requesting $4.8 billion for the budget year beginning Oct. 1. That would include $120 million for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP), which manages cleanup of sites used for early nuclear weapons and energy projects under the Manhattan Engineer District and Atomic Energy Commission. Work is ongoing at 19 locations.

The fiscal 2018 budget omnibus signed into law in March provided $139 million for FUSRAP.

The hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Dirksen Senate Office Building Room 430 and will be webcast.

Representing the Army Corps will be R.D. James, assistant Army secretary for civil works, and Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, commanding general and chief of engineers.
