222-S Lab operator extended another year

By ExchangeMonitor

Navarro-ATL has been awarded a one-year extension of its management and operations contract for the 222-S Laboratory at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state.

Navarro-ATL, previously known as Hanford Laboratory Management and Integration, LLC, announced the extension Tuesday in a LinkedIn post.

The original contract started in 2021. The contract includes a five-year base period followed by two one-year option periods, Navarro-ATL General Manager Mark Hughey said in a Monday email to 222-S lab employees.

“DOE’s decision to exercise the first option year reflects their confidence in our consistent performance, positive relationships, and our ongoing commitment to supporting the Hanford cleanup mission safely and efficiently,” Hughey said in the email viewed by Exchange Monitor.

The business is currently valued at about $636 million, according to a contract chart for the DOE Office of Environmental Management.

The 222-S lab is a 70,000-square-foot analytical facility that handles highly radioactive samples of Hanford tank waste in order to help monitor potential radiation hazards for workers.

The 222-S lab supports Hanford’s Direct-Feed-Low-Activity-Waste Facility at the Waste Treatment Plant, according to a DOE fact sheet.
