Amentum has been chosen by Rolls-Royce SMR to serve as its program delivery partner for the first European deployments of Rolls-Royce small modular reactors. .

The two companies signed a collaborative agreement to make Amentum responsible for integration, oversight, governance, construction management and execution of SMR deployment, according to Amentum’s Tuesday press release.

In the United Kingdom, Rolls-Royce SMR seeks to deliver up to 1,500 megawatts of nuclear energy to the grid, supporting carbon-free power and creating more than 8,000 British jobs.

Last summer, Rolls-Royce SMR was selected as the preferred bidder by Great Britain Energy – Nuclear to build three units. The SMR developer will construct its three reactors at Wylfa on Anglesey in North Wales.

According to the release, Amentum will immediately work on the delivery of the first Rolls-Royce SMRs in the UK and Czechia. Rolls-Royce SMR is in a strategic partnership with Czech power utility ČEZ to bring 3 gigawatts or 3,000 megawatts online in Czechia.

“The Amentum Rolls-Royce SMR collaboration advances the deployment of this transformational technology, a critical enabler in strengthening energy security in the UK and continental Europe,” Amentum CEO John Heller said.

A Rolls-Royce SMR’s unit will be designed as a pressurized water reactor that produces 470 megawatts.
