Électricité de France (EDF) recently awarded Virginia-based Amentum a handful of new nuclear services contracts valued at roughly $730 million (£540 million).
Under these contracts, Amentum will be expanding the critical solutions for the United Kingdom’s current nuclear reactor fleet, in addition to the construction of a new gigawatt power station at Hinkley Point, according to Amentum’s Jan. 27 press release.
Amentum will put in over 1,000 UK-based specialists to provide a plethora of nuclear skills, solutions and products needed to assist in the continued operation of the current UK fleet, Loren Jones, senior vice president and head of Amentum’s Energy & Environment-International business, said.
Along with that, 300 Amentum employees are already providing multidisciplinary roles at Hinkley Point C under its professional services agreement, Jones added.
“We expect this number to grow as these new contracts mature, strengthening our position to support long-term operations once the reactors come online,” Jones said.
Since 2015, Amentum has been working with EDF through a lifetime enterprise agreement. Under that contract, Amentum has provided strategic, long-term technical solutions for EDF’s UK nuclear power fleet.
The work produced through the partnership has supported EDF to achieve a cumulative 38 years of life extension across the seven advanced gas-cooled reactor stations, Amentum said.
