Due to the ongoing government shutdown, the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (NWTRB) is postponing its Nov. 13 public meeting scheduled for Arlington, Va.
A new date is yet to be determined but it will be after January 2026, a spokesperson for NWTRB said via email Wednesday afternoon.
When the new date and venue are determined, NWTRB will post that information to the board’s website and in the Federal Register.
The board anticipates senior managers from the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy will speak during the rescheduled meeting. Whenever the meeting occurs, it will be live streamed and recorded, according to the board.
The NWTRB is an independent agency within the executive branch set up to peer review DOE efforts to manage and dispose of high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.
The board reports its findings to Congress and the secretary of energy.
