AREVA TN Announces Completion of Two Dry Cask Loading Campaigns

AREVA TN recently announced the completion of two successful pool-to-pad dry-cask loading and support  campaigns. The first occurred at Exelon’s Nine Mile Point nuclear power plant, where crews loaded four NUHOMS 61BTH Type 1 dry shielded canisters, with 10,500 safe on-site work hours and zero safety and near-miss issues. There were also no personnel contamination issues during the project, according to a press release on the issue.
 
Dose performance at Nine Mile Point was 62 percent of budget, according to the company. The ALARA budget was 2,318 mR, while the actual was 1,441 mR.
 
After demobilization at Nine Mile Point, the team transitioned to PPL Corporation’s Susquehanna nuclear power plant, where crews moved 488 fuel assemblies from the facility’s spent fuel pools to independent spent fuel storage.  According to the company, there was an average cycle time of four and a half days per 61BTH Type 1 DSC. Eight DSCs were loaded with 17,890 safe on-site work hours and no first aid or Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordables.
 
Dose performance at Susquehanna  was 72 percent of budget, according to the company. The ALARA budget was 3,366 mR, while the actual was 2,446 mR.
