ARMY CORPS SEEKS COMPANIES TO TRANSPORT AND DISPOSE OF LOW LEVEL WASTE

The Army Corps of Engineers is seeking companies able to transport and permanently dispose of low-level radioactive waste not regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, according to a sources sought notice posted Friday. Transport of the material, which would be mainly soil and debris in volumes up to “tens of thousands of cubic yards,” would take place by truck or rail, the notice states. The material would come from sites over which the Corps has cleanup authority, including Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program sites, Superfund sites and Base Realignment and Closure sites, and could include low activity radioactive waste, low activity mixed waste, Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material and TENORM Mixed Waste. Responses to the notice are due March 29.
