Dr. Grace M. Bochenek has emerged as the top candidate to serve as the new director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, GHG Monitor has learned. Bochenek currently serves as Director of the U.S. Army’s Research, Development and Engineering Command’s (RDECOM’s) Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC). She has served in that capacity since 2006.

Bochenek would replace acting NETL Director Scott Klara, who has led the lab since taking over for former Director Anthony Cugini last fall. DOE has been publicly looking for a permanent replacement for Klara since December but did not share an expected timeline for the search. It remains unclear exactly when a public announcement of the selection is to be made. DOE did not respond to several requests for comment over the last two weeks.
