106 Employees Approved for Y-12 Voluntary Layoffs

NS&D Monitor
5/23/2014

B&W Y-12 President Dave Richardson announced internally this week  that 106 employees have been approved for the site’s Voluntary Separation Program, which was designed to meet the staffing needs identified by incoming Y-12/Pantex contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security. CNS will replace B&W on July 1. The VSP number is significantly below the total of 158 jobs that had been targeted for reduction at Y-12 via the incentivized program. Bill Reis, the communications chief for B&W Y-12, said a total of 148 employees applied for the layoff program. Almost 1,200 employees had been notified earlier that they were eligible to apply for the voluntary departure program.

Asked if there would be another VSP offering at Y-12 or possibly involuntary layoffs to reduce the payroll, Reis said, “At this time, the answer to both questions … is no.” In his message to employees, Richardson said, “B&W Y-12 has approved and notified 106 employees of their acceptance in the program. Those employees should begin working with their supervisors to establish a release date on or before June 30. We would like to thank those who have elected to participate in the program and who will be leaving the site for your years of service to Y-12 and the nation.”
