Y-12 UPF Gets Permanent Federal Project Chief

Dale Christenson, who has served as federal project director of the Y-12 site’s Uranium Processing Facility since last spring when John Eschenberg stepped down, has been named to the top position on a permanent basis following a months-long search. Steven Wyatt, a spokesman for the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Production Office, confirmed the selection of the new federal boss on the multibillion-dollar project but would not elaborate on the process.

“We have no further comment,” Wyatt said.

Christenson, who previously served as federal project manager for the Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility at Y-12, received the Bronze Medal Award from the NNSA in 2010 for his work in overseeing work on the uranium storage facility.

Earlier in his career, Christenson was a construction engineer on the Superconducting Super Collider and a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
