AtkinsRéalis, NVIDIA to collaborate on nuclear-powered AI factories

By ExchangeMonitor

AtkinsRéalis and Nvidia are working together to explore integration of the global tech company’s technologies to potentially advance nuclear-powered artificial intelligence (AI) factories.

Montreal, Canada-based AtkinsRéalis said in a Monday press release that this collaboration could help it design a three-dimensional “digital twin” of infrastructure prior to real world construction.

With AtkinsRéalis having the exclusive technology rights to the Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactor, the two companies will explore opportunities in nuclear integration, data center engineering and new and accelerated methods for project delivery, according to the release.

“This collaboration enables us to leverage these strengths in energy, infrastructure and complex project delivery to complement NVIDIA’s leadership in accelerated computing to help power critical AI data centers,” AtkinsRéalis President and CEO Ian Edwards said.

The two companies said the collaboration comes at a time when global AI infrastructure demand is outpacing current power generation. Vladimir Troy, Nvidia’s vice president of AI Infrastructure, said energy is pivotal in the AI industrial needs and the partnership between AtkinsRéalis and NVIDIA will help scale up deployment

This collaboration also comes after Nvidia and the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory announced plans to team up to use AI to accelerate nuclear reactor development, stemming from the Genesis Mission
