B&W Conversion Services, LLC, has reached an operational milestone at the depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) conversion plant located at the Department of Energy’s Paducah site. All four of the Paducah facility’s production lines have run “continuously and simultaneously” for two weeks, from Sept. 4 through Sept. 18, the contractor announced yesterday. The Paducah plant’s sister facility, located at DOE’s Portsmouth site near Piketon, Ohio, accomplished a similar operational milestone in August. “Paducah’s achievement—along with Piketon’s—clearly shows the progress that has been made in bringing these plants to steady operation,” DOE Federal Project Director Jack Zimmerman said in a release. “DOE looks forward to both plants achieving steady state conversion operations.”
