BWX Technologies says it is not fretting about the Energy Department’s February cancellation of the liquid waste management procurement for the Savannah River Site in South Carolina.
The company for a few months owned a chunk of the follow-on contract, now eliminated. But the Lynchburg, Va.-based DOE contractor still holds a piece of the current waste contract at SRS as a partner in AECOM-led Savannah River Remediation, and it hopes to win new business at the Hanford Site in Washington state.
Savannah River Remediation has received an 18-month contract extension, through Sept. 30, 2020. Other members of the joint venture are Bechtel National and Jacobs subsidiary CH2M.
BWX Technologies is also optimistic about an additional contract “win,” as part of a joint venture at either the Hanford Tank Closure Contract or the Hanford Central Plateau Cleanup Contract, Chief Financial Officer David Black said last week. “So, there are some other things out there that will help us,” Black said during the company’s May 2 quarterly earnings call. The CFO indicated BWXT is a participant in both solicitations.
Black did not discuss BWXT’s partners on the bids. Last month, an industry source said a Fluor-BWXT team was competing with an Atkins-AECOM venture, along with a Jacobs-Honeywell team possibly featuring Perma-Fix Environmental Services, for the potential 10-year, $13 billion Tank Closure Contract.
Central Plateau is a potential 10-year, $12 billion contract. Both solicitations were issued in February, and awards could be made in August.
