BWX Technologies has expanded its service offerings at Bulgaria’s New Build Kozloduy Nuclear Plant to help build units 7 and 8, the Virginia-based company said this week.
BWXT will provide owner’s engineer services at the Bulgarian plant as a part of a three-party consortium. The other parties are Laurentis Energy Partners and its subsidiary Canadian Nuclear Partners S.A.
According to BWXT’s Tuesday press release, the full contract runs about 10 years and is “valued at hundreds of millions of euros.” The owner’s engineer, made up of BWXT and its partners, will serve as a partner in the development and management of the Kozloduy nuclear plant, BWXT said.
Under the first phase of the contract, the consortium will assist Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Builds Plc with front-end services, including engineering, procurement and construction contract negotiations, ahead of a potential final investment decision.
When a final investment decision is reached, the second phase of the contract will provide engineering services throughout the execution of the project. The Bulgarian government is proposing to build two Westinghouse AP1000 units at the Kozloduy site and expects the first unit to be online by 2035, according to the release.
