The Savannah River Site’s security contractor, Centerra-SRS, earned $2.81 million out of a possible $2.96 million award fee for the first half of fiscal 2016. The money equates to a 95 percent performance during the time frame spanning from October 2015 through March 2016. The Department of Energy awards contractors based on how well they perform duties under their work scope. In Centerra’s case, its responsibilities at the South Carolina facility include training a protective force, meeting environmental and safety standards, and maintaining cost control.
The Energy Department highlighted several achievements by the contractor, such as registering “no major or minor non-conformances or opportunities for improvement” during an audit in January. In April, Centerra qualified for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Commendation of Excellence Award for the sixth year in a row. Also during that time, employees worked more than 1.4 million hours without losing time to injury.
Centerra’s other accomplishments finishing the first half of the fiscal year $515,000 under budget. “During this period the company continued to manage both labor and non-labor expenditures to ensure FY 2016 operating expenses do not exceed the FY 2016 Annual Operating Plan or the Contract Value,” the department wrote on Centerra’s scorecard.
The department noted minor deficiencies, such as performance failures by individual workers who did not follow company procedures. No further details on the deficiencies were provided, but DOE said management assessed each one and “administered discipline as warranted.”
