The head of an Amentum-led cleanup prime at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site is leaving and will be replaced by the top executive of the Leidos-led landlord contractor at the former plutonium production complex in Washington state.
In a Monday press release, Central Plateau Cleanup President John Eschenberg said he was leaving the remediation joint venture in late July in order to take another position within Amentum and will be succeeded by the president of Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) Bob Wilkinson.
HMIS, which consists of Leidos, Centerra and Parsons, issued its own press release announcing Wilkinson’s departure.
Eschenberg is not retiring but is taking another post within Amentum that will be announced at a later date, said Central Plateau Cleanup Co., a team of Amentum, Fluor and Atkins. Wilkinson’s “onboarding” will start July 8 and be completed by the end of July, according to the Central Plateau Cleanup release.
Wilkinson will be leaving HMIS on July 3, the landlord contractor said in its press release. “I’m pleased to announce that Amy Basche will be acting as the HMIS President,” Wilkinson said. “Amy has been the Chief Operations Officer the entire tenure of HMIS,” the departing executive said. Basche has more than 30 years of experience at Hanford and is a longtime manager, Wilkinson said.
The two contractors together employ about 3,600 people at Hanford. Hanford Mission, which oversees chores including roads, grounds, recordkeeping and fire protection, has about 2,000 workers, a spokesperson said Thursday. Central Plateau Cleanup has nearly 1,600, a contractor spokesperson said via email.
HMIS has held the $4-billion Essential Services contract at Hanford since August 2020. Its base period ends in August 2025. The joint venture is currently being sued by the Department of Justice for overbilling for fire protection services at Hanford.
Central Plateau Cleanup has held its $10-billion DOE remediation contract, which includes mostly solid-waste cleanup in Hanford’s interior, since December 2019.
