CNS to subcontract fuel station construction at Tennessee weapons site

Consolidated Nuclear Security planned to subcontract construction of a new vehicle fuel station at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the site prime said Monday.

The project includes designing and building the new fuel station for Y-12, as well as equipping a building with a computer station and three 10,000-gallon fueling systems, one each for E-85, unleaded, and diesel fuel, according to a May 6 sources sought notice

The subcontractor will also have to commission the facility, according to the notice. Response to the sources-sought are due May 31.

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) planned to keep the the Consolidated Nuclear Security will on the job at Y-12 until 2027, using a pair of one-year options that remain on the Bechtel National-led team’s contract, NNSA administrator Jill Hruby said in February at the Exchange Monitor’s annual Nuclear Deterrence Summit.

As of Monday afternoon, the NNSA had not announced that it had exercised those options. Y-12 builds the main components of the secondary stages of nuclear weapons.
