Comments Requested for Niagara Falls Site Waste Plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District has released its feasibility study and proposed plan for the Interim Waste Containment Structure Operable Unit of the Niagara Falls Storage Site, and is inviting the public to a meeting in Youngstown, N.Y., on Jan. 13. The public is free to comment on the proposed plan through Feb. 6.

The proposed plan documents the Corps of Engineers’ preferred alternative for the Interim Waste Containment Structure Operable Unit, which is Alternative 4: excavation, partial treatment, and off-site disposal of the entire contents of the Interim Waste Containment Structure.

The public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Town of Lewiston Senior Center, 4361 Lower River Road. Written comments will be accepted that evening. They can also be emailed to [email protected]; or mailed to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, Attention: Environmental Project Management Team, 1776 Niagara St., Buffalo, NY, 14207.
