The request would include $103 million for the Corps’ formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP), which was initiated in 1974 to identify, investigate, and clean up or control sites contaminated from the nation’s early atomic weapons and energy programs during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.
The White House’s fiscal 2017 budget shows potential cuts to Corps programs. Low priority studies and construction show a decrease from $1.98 billion in 2016 to $1.18 billion in 2017, meaning a decrease of $808 million. Operation and maintenance work shows a decrease of $3.14 billion in 2016 to $2.70 billion in 2017, meaning a decrease of about $432 million.
