Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s adviser on all things energy, on Friday knocked the current administration’s overregulation of everything from energy to overtime pay. “Over the last eight years, President Obama has led a regulatory onslaught the likes of which we have never seen,” Cramer said during the Republican weekly address.
A vocal opponent of regulations enacted by the Obama administration, including caps on carbon emissions from new and existing coal-fired power plants, Cramer presented a pitch for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) “Better Way” plan. “People feel the system is working against them, no matter how hard they work, no matter how much they plan,” Cramer said. “This is always my cue to hold up this Better Way booklet and share the bold agenda that Republicans have for a more confident America.”
The “Better Way” proposals are intended to lay out a policy direction going forward on issues of poverty, national security, the economy, the Constitution, healthcare, and tax reform, ahead of the hoped-for November election of Republican candidate Donald Trump as president.
Cramer said the GOP’s plan “will cut down on needless regulations. To do this, we want to require a vote in Congress before any major regulation can take effect. Unelected bureaucrats should not have the final say—the people and their representatives should.” He added: “And we believe that there should be a cap on the amount of regulatory costs Washington can impose each year.”
