David Wright NRC term to expire next month

By ExchangeMonitor

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chair David Wright’s term with the agency is set to end on June 30.

As of 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the White House had not announced plans to renominate Wright.

Wright was originally sworn in as a commissioner for the NRC on May 30, 2018. He was appointed by president Donald Trump during his first term. In Trump’s second term, he appointed Wright to be chair of the agency on Jan. 20.

Prior to his time with the NRC, Wright served on the South Carolina Public Commission, National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, and the Advisory Board of the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Research Institute.

Wright was also the president and owner of the Wright Directions, LLC. and served as mayor and council member in Irmo, S.C., and in the South Carolina House of Representatives.

The NRC is a bipartisan and independent government agency that is led by five commissioners, representing each party. The other commissioners currently serving are Annie Caputo, Bradley Crowell, Christopher Hanson and Matthew Marzano.
