Daytime high temperatures around the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state should exceed 100 degrees only a couple of days this week, although a fire watch is in effect, according to a National Weather Service forecast.
The forecast around Richland, Wash., no longer includes the excessive heat advisory, as daytime highs will not hit triple digits again until Saturday, according to the government weather service.
Nevertheless, a chance of thunderstorms over the next couple of days, coupled with the hot dry conditions over the past two weeks, means a “Red Flag” fire watch is in effect until about nightfall tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
A Red Flag means warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger, according to the weather service.
