DEBRIEFS ON NEW WIPP CONTRACT AWARD SET TO BEGIN THIS WEEK

By ExchangeMonitor

Department of Energy debriefs are scheduled to get underway this week with the four teams believed to have bid on the recently awarded new M&O contract for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. The contract, worth approximately $1.3 billion, was awarded to a team led by URS called Nuclear Waste Partnership, LLC, which also includes B&W and, as a major subcontractor, AREVA. Bechtel, CH2M Hill and Fluor are each believed to have led unsuccessful bids for the new contract, which is set to run for up to 10 years. Prior to the contract award, DOE had proposed conducting ‘open book’ debriefs in an apparent attempt to help ward off a protest by an unsuccessful bidder. All of the bidders had to agree to open book debriefs, though, and some ultimately opposed the concept.
